ICYMI, everyone\u2019s favorite squarepants-wearing fry-cook has a BIG anniversary this year. That\u2019s right – we\u2019re celebrating 25 YEARS OF SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS! What better way to honor SpongeBob\u2019s legacy and the beloved cartoon\u2019s roots in marine biology (did you know that creator Stephen Hillenburg was originally a marine biology teacher?!) than by using this moment to do some good?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

NICKELODEON\u2019S PLEDGE TO ACT LIKE A SPONGE<\/b><\/p>\n

We are so proud to share that in honor of SpongeBob\u2019s 25th Anniversary, Nickelodeon has pledged to remove 5 million pounds of plastic and debris by 2027<\/a>. Our cleanup efforts have already collected over 1.5 million pounds from oceans and ocean-bound waterways across the globe, but there\u2019s still more to be done to achieve our goal.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

ACT LIKE A SPONGE: TAKE A TRIP TO THE AQUARIUM!\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

We partnered with several aquariums across the U.S. to inspire climate action and encourage families to Act LIke A Sponge together! Don\u2019t miss special activations honoring SpongeBob and Stephen Hillenburg\u2019s passion for protecting marine life at the following participating aquariums from July 15 \u2013 Sept 15, 2024:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
