Santiago of the Seas Mermaid Bath Bomb DIY

Shiver me timbers! Look at the treasures that be — a giant pearl, disappearing into the sea. Channel your inner mermaid by create this magical bath bomb inspired by Lorelai from Santiago of the Seas.

What You’ll Need

  • measuring cup
  • measuring spoons
  • 2 bowls
  • whisk
  • bath bomb molds
  • gloves (optional)
  • 2 c. baking soda
  • 1 c. citric acid
  • 2 tsp. cornstarch
  • 1 tsp. oil (olive, coconut)
  • 1-2 tsp. body wash or bubble bath
  • 1/2 tsp. each colorant (we used blue mica, purple mica)
  • nautical sprinkles (optional)

How to Make:

Step 1: Combine all the dry ingredients — baking soda (make sure it has no lumps), citric acid, cornstarch — into a bowl. Make sure to break up all the lumps and mix well.

Step 2: Add the liquids, starting with oil. Mix with hands and be sure to get the lumps out. Add the body wash/bubble bath slowly, testing to see at what point you can form a ball in the palm of your hand.  If it doesn’t break up, it’s ready!

Step 3: Split your mixture into two bowls. Add a color into each bowl. Work the color into the mix until well blended.

Step 4: Open your mold and add your favorite sprinkles inside. Add a layer of your first bath bomb mix color, then the other color. Alternate until the first half of the bath bomb is filled. Press down lightly then add another scoop to overfill the mold.

Step 5: Repeat with the other half of the mold, then use your finger to make an indentation in the center to create an air pocket. (This will help it float.) Add a small scoop to overfill. Be sure not to press the mound down.

Step 6: Press your two halves together firmly. Leave for a few minutes to firm up. Tap with a spoon and gently pull one side of the mold from the bomb. spoon and tap the sides lightly. Let dry overnight.

Step 7: Fill up the tub and throw the bomb overboard!
