TMNT Bento-style Michelangelo Lunch Recipe

Lunchbox Dad teaches how to make a meal featuring Mikey, Ice Cream Kitty, and pizza.

I grew up watching Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and acting out different scenes from the show with my friends. As a dad, it’s fantastic seeing my own kids becoming fans of the Turtles. It’s because of this that I teamed up with my friend Brent Almond from Designer Daddy to bring you a fun, bento-style Michelangelo and Ice Cream Kitty lunch recipe, along with an exclusive printable lunch note. Michelangelo is the youngest Turtle. He loves pizza, goofing around, and his pet Ice Cream Kitty, who is also a mutant!

The recipe is easy to make, and you can find all of the ingredients at your local grocery and craft store. On top of that, you can simply download and print the lunch note below. There’s even space to write your own special message to your kids, as well as a super-sized coloring page version! Combine the lunchbox and lunch note together, give them to your kids, and they’ll smile from ear to ear. You might even get a “Turtle Power” out of them!

How to Make

Step One: Use a circle cookie cutter on spinach tortilla to cut out two circles for Mikey’s head. Place turkey on one circle. Put other tortilla circle on top of turkey. Cut mask from cheddar cheese and eyes and teeth from provolone, as shown. Use scissors to cut mouth shape out of roasted seaweed sheet. Slice one blueberry in half.

Step Two: Arrange facial features as shown in picture. Make three freckles on each of Michelangelo’s cheeks using food coloring marker. Drop dried mango in main compartment of lunchbox for the background. Put Michelangelo sandwich on top.

Step Three: Place watermelon wedge in side compartment. Top with sliced strawberry pieces and blueberry. Sprinkle coconut on top to finish the fruit pizza slice.

Step Four: To make Ice Cream Kitty, form her head, arms, and upper body with pink edible modeling dough. Wilton has a version called Shape-N-Amaze that can be found online or at your local craft store. You can create things with it just like you are playing with clay. Make her stomach with white dough, and her bottom part with brown. Press parts together to form Ice Cream Kitty as shown in picture.
