  • Glue stick
  • Gardening soil
  • Scallion roots
  • Water

How to Make:

Step 1: Paint popsicle sticks white. Let dry.

Step 2: Glue urban farm prints to the shoebox (starting from the top), leaving the back empty for a balcony. Depending on the size of your shoebox, you may have to trim images to fit.

Step 3: Glue white popsicle sticks around the 3 sides of the box to make a fence. A grownup can trim the popsicle sticks to fit.

Step 4: Line the bottom of the shoebox with plastic wrap.

Step 5: Fill shoebox with soil.

Step 6: Plant scallion roots at least one inch apart and add water so that the soil is moist but not drenched.

Step 7: Cut out and glue Annie and Pony and any other characters to the box.

Step 8: Leave your urban farm by a windowsill or somewhere with lots of sunlight.

Step 9: When you’re ready to harvest your scallions, leave the white bulbs in the soil and cut the green tops so that the scallions grow back.
